Why a Christmas Industry Podcast?

Why a Christmas Industry Podcast?

Over the years, I’ve been asked many times why I focus so heavily on Christmas and seasonal businesses.

The answer is simple.
This is the space I know best — and the space that keeps asking for help.

I spent years owning and running a Christmas and seasonal retail business myself. I understand the pressure of short selling windows, the intensity of peak periods, and the very real reality that one good or bad season can shape an entire year.

Seasonal businesses don’t operate like traditional, year-round retailers. Your planning starts early. Your cash flow behaves differently. Your customer relationships matter long after the doors close for the season.

Yet when I went looking for practical, business-focused content designed specifically for this industry, there wasn’t much to be found.

That gap is exactly why The Seasonal Operator Podcast exists.

Why this podcast needed to happen

In recent years, a growing number of enquiries I receive come from Christmas retailers, installers, decorators, wholesalers and seasonal operators.

The questions are consistent:

  • How do I get customers to come back year after year?

  • How do I stay relevant when I’m not trading?

  • How do I build loyalty in such a short selling window?

  • How do I improve customer experience without adding complexity?

Most mainstream marketing advice simply doesn’t account for the realities of seasonal trade. This podcast is designed to change that.

What this podcast is really about

At its core, this podcast is about customer experience as a commercial advantage.

Not customer experience as a buzzword — but as a practical way to:

  • increase repeat business

  • build trust quickly

  • strengthen long-term relationships

  • and protect profit in a high-pressure trading environment

Some episodes will be solo conversations where I break down ideas you can apply straight away. Others will feature business owners across retail, installation, decorating and wholesale, sharing what actually works in their businesses.

I’ll also be interviewing customers. Because understanding what drives loyalty and repeat buying — in their own words — is one of the most valuable insights a business can have.

You’ll also hear episodes focused on trends and trade shows, not just reporting on what’s happening, but helping you interpret what it means for your business decisions.

Not every episode will be relevant to every business — and that’s intentional. This is an industry-specific podcast, built for depth, not noise.
